DNS Service Consolidation at WHC
Ticket #93 : Consolidation of justingoufo.com DNS Service to WHC
Type : Infrastructure Operation / Simplification
Composants Affectés : Domain Nameserver (NS), DNS Zone
Strategic Objective: To simplify the project's infrastructure by consolidating critical services. The goal was to migrate the DNS service management from Namecheap to WHC (Web Hosting Canada), where the justingoufo.com domain is already registered, in order to reduce the number of providers and centralize configuration.
1. Actions Performed
The migration was executed following a two-step procedure to ensure a controlled transition:
-
Preparation of the Destination DNS Zone (at WHC):
- Before initiating any public-facing changes, the DNS zone was configured on WHC's platform.
- The
Arecords for the critical subdomains (investanddocs.invest) were created, pointing to the static IP address of the application server (147.93.43.173).
-
Nameserver Update (at WHC, the registrar):
- The core action of the migration consisted of changing the nameservers (NS) for the
justingoufo.comdomain. - Namecheap's nameservers were replaced with WHC's default nameservers.
- This change officially delegated the authority for DNS resolution for the domain to WHC.
- The core action of the migration consisted of changing the nameservers (NS) for the
2. Validation Process
- The success of the migration was monitored using public DNS checking tools (e.g.,
dnschecker.org) to observe the global propagation of the nameserver change. - Once propagation was confirmed,
pingtests were conducted to validate that the subdomains were resolving to the correct IP address. - Finally, the web services (
https://invest.justingoufo.comandhttps://docs.invest.justingoufo.com) were tested to confirm their accessibility.
3. Final Outcome
The migration is a success. Both domain management (registration) and DNS resolution management are now consolidated under a single provider (WHC). This simplification reduces administrative complexity, decreases potential points of failure, and aligns the infrastructure with the strategic goal of service centralization.
